FAQ

What is this faucet for?

This is a demo faucet. Our node sends exactly 1 satoshi to any Lightning address, invoice, or LNURL you paste.

It is not meant to farm sats. One sat is worth almost nothing; the point is to show friends how fast Lightning payments are — instant settlement, no bank delay, no card form. Zap your own wallet, watch it arrive, and compare the timer on screen.

What is measured?

The stats table tracks your use of this page, not the Lightning address or wallet you paste. The numbers are not tied to a specific wallet.

You (your row):

  • Credit — running balance in sats. Goes down by 1 for each successful zap you request; goes up when you pay a top-up invoice.
  • Top-ups — total sats you paid into the faucet.
  • Zapped — total sats the faucet sent on your requests (1 sat per successful payment, regardless of destination).

Site-wide (“Faucet”):

  • Top-ups and Zapped — everything all visitors combined paid in or received today, or since the faucet existed.

The shared pool balance (sats still available for zaps) is shown above the form, not in the table.

Today means since midnight UTC. Daily credit and daily counters reset then; all-time columns never reset. The payment timer shown after a zap measures that one request (Lightning settlement plus browser ↔ server time) — it is not stored in the table.

What do the stats rows mean?

The table tracks three things in sats: Credit, Top-ups, and Zapped.

  • You · today — your activity since midnight UTC today.
  • You · all time — your lifetime totals.
  • Faucet · today — everything the public faucet did today.
  • Faucet · all time — everything the faucet has ever sent or received.
What are Credit, Top-ups, and Zapped?
  • Credit — your personal balance with the faucet. It starts at 0. Each zap you receive costs 1 sat, so credit goes down by 1. Paying a top-up invoice adds credit back. Positive credit means you have prepaid allowance; negative credit means you have used free zaps.
  • Top-ups — sats you paid into the faucet (via the “Top up the faucet” invoice). Top-ups increase your credit and refill the public pool.
  • Zapped — sats the faucet sent to you (one per successful 1-sat payment).
Why can my credit go down to −5?

That is by design. Every visitor gets up to 5 free zaps per day without paying anything — enough to try Lightning and show it to a friend, not enough to abuse the faucet.

Each free zap lowers your daily credit by 1 sat, from 0 down to −5. At −5 you need to wait until the next UTC day (when today’s allowance resets) or top up the faucet to add credit and keep zapping. Top-up credit also carries in your all-time balance, so unused paid credit survives past midnight.
